Aurora University celebrates 2022 spring commencement

Linnea Windel, president and CEO, VNA Health Care, and Richard S. Price, chairman and CEO, Meisirow, receive honorary degrees

AURORA, Ill. (May 11, 2022) – Aurora University celebrated the accomplishments of nearly 1,200 graduates during spring commencement ceremonies May 7-8 on the campus quadrangle.

During the undergraduate ceremony, Dr. Rebecca L. Sherrick, president, conferred more than 700 baccalaureate degrees for the Class of 2022. Degrees included Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Social Work. Nearly 500 graduates earned master’s and doctoral degrees during the graduate ceremony. Degrees were awarded in athletic training, business, criminal justice, education, exercise science, public administration and social work.

The honorary degree, Doctor of Humane Letters, was awarded to Linnea Windel, president and chief executive officer, VNA Health Care, and Richard S. Price, chairman and chief executive officer, Meisirow. Windel was recognized for improving the health of communities, advocating to care for the most vulnerable, and promoting nursing excellence. Price was honored for his collaborative spirit and dedication to the community, his work to ensure access to quality educational opportunities for all and his commitment to citizenship through his tireless efforts to meet the needs of others.

During the undergraduate ceremony, Lisa Pertl, associate professor of nursing, was presented with the Marcus and Mark H. Trumbo Award for Excellence in Teaching. The Trumbo Award is the university’s most prestigious faculty recognition. Pertl was honored in part for her unwavering support of students and her involvement in organizations that focus on the state of intellectual development and the promotion of social justice.
