The Fairfield Student Council received the Student Organization of Character Award. After the death of Fairfield High School Spanish teacher Mrs. Nohema Graber, members of the Fairfield Student Council organized a memorial event in her honor. After countless hours of planning, the students announced a memorial walk to honor Mrs. Graber and her profound impact on the community. “A Walk for Nohema” consisted of a walk, a silent auction, and a t-shirt fundraiser. The Fairfield Student Council raised over $5,000 for a scholarship in Mrs. Graber’s name. The walk served as a moment of solidarity and healing for family, students, faculty, and community members impacted by the death of Mrs. Graber.

The Ray Center annually recognizes Iowans who show the Six Pillars of CHARACTER COUNTS!: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship. Since 2005, the organization has recognized more than 150 Iowans for showing good character.
