(Des Moines) November 16-22, 2008 marks the 87th annual American Education Week celebration. Sponsored in part by the National Education Association (NEA), American Education Week (AEW) celebrates the importance of providing every child in America with a quality public education from kindergarten through college, and the need for all Americans to do their part in making public schools great.
The Iowa State Education Association (ISEA) joins NEA in honoring all of the individuals who team up each and every day to help Iowa's kids be the best they can be.
"American Education Week is a terrific reminder that it takes a whole lot of individuals working together to create a great environment for our kids," said ISEA president Chris Bern. "From the bus driver who transports our kids, to the hall monitors who shuffle them to class, to the classroom teacher who teaches the lessons and the custodian who makes sure the building is fit to do it all over again the next day! All of these individuals and the many, many more involved in our great public schools have a hand in making sure all kids have access to a great public education in Iowa. We are really proud of the work they do, and this is our opportunity to celebrate their efforts."
Bern added: "The ISEA encourages Iowans to thank the educators and education support professionals involved in their child's school each and every day, but especially this week."
American Education Week presents all Americans with an opportunity to honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring that every child receives a quality education. The weeklong celebration spotlights the different people who are critical in building great public schools for the nation's 50 million K-12 students. American Education Week's celebration days include:

Wednesday, November 19: Education Support Professionals Day.
