LIVE HEALTHY IOWA TO HOST 'PAWS IN THE PARK' IN BOONE

AMES, Iowa - August 7, 2012 - Grab the leash and get moving! On Saturday, August 11, Live Healthy Iowa will host a pet-friendly event, Paws in the Park, in Boone from 9:00-11:00 a.m. At Memorial Park attendees will have opportunities to gather helpful information from vendors and to take part in a dog walk at 9:30 a.m. The event is free and open to all!

Paws in the Park is a local event in support of Live Healthy Iowa's Dog Days of Summer Challenge taking place August 1-31. The community of Boone was selected as the pilot site for the Dog Days of Summer Challenge, new this year to Live Healthy Iowa's list of offerings. Boone's extensive park and recreation areas, active community partners, familiarity with Live Healthy Iowa challenges and the location of the Boone Area Humane Society earned the community this honor.

The Dog Days of Summer Challenge encourages Iowans to team-up with a canine companion and get moving. Challenge participants track the minutes they walk, run or actively play with a dog. The opportunity is not limited to dog owners. Interested individuals, in need of a challenge partner, can volunteer with a local animal shelter or connect with a friend or neighbor owning a dog.

For eight dollars challenge participants receive a Dog Days of Summer pet bandana; weekly email tips; personal online tracking page; unlimited access to online recipes; workouts and health information; and the opportunity to win prizes. Registration is open throughout the challenge.

Registration remains open for the Dog Days of Summer Challenge. For more information or to register, visit www.livehealthyiowa.org.
