KEEP IOWA BEAUTIFUL ANNOUNCES HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS
Keep Iowa Beautiful is offering up to four, $500 scholarships to Iowa high school seniors in 2013! Students across Iowa enrolling in an Iowa college or university to major in community enhancement or environmental areas of study are eligible.
Through the leadership of Bob Byers, long-time educator, KIB’s Litter-Free School Campus program was initiated in northwest Iowa in 2003. In memory of Bob and his dedication to young people and environmental concerns, KIB and the Byers family established the Byers Scholarship Environmental Fund.
“Keep Iowa Beautifuls’ programs are focused on enhancing Iowa's image through community assistance and collaboration,” said Gerry Schnepf, Executive Director of KIB. “We seek to improve behavior patterns in our younger generations and reinforce values in older generations that encourage respect for home, neighborhood, community and state,” he added. “KIB serves as a key resource for educating youth on the importance of respect for the community and our environment.”
This is the fifth year of the Byers Environmental Scholarships. Awards have been made to sixteen graduating high school seniors for a total of $7,250.
Students can download the application on-line at www.keepiowabeautiful.com and return it postmarked by February 8, 2013. Award winners will be notified by April 5, 2013. Please contact the KIB office at Julie Bailey at 515-490-4754 with any questions.
