SCHOOLS ACROSS THE STATE COMMIT TO FALL ACTIVITY EVENT

Live Healthy Iowa Kids invites youth to participate in a free, one-day event on Oct. 3

AMES, Iowa - September 25, 2012 - As the leaves turn colors and the air cools, Oct. 3 looks to be a great day for Iowa students to get active. Currently there are a great number of organizations signed up for Live Healthy Iowa Kids Fall Fitness Day; last year 178 schools with 56,466 students reported participated in the event and so far this year over 70,000 youth have committed to get active on Oct. 3. In conjunction with Fall Fitness Day, organizations are also encouraged to participate in the Healthiest State Walk.

Live Healthy Iowa Kids invites schools and youth organizations to participate in this free, one-day event. Fall Fitness Day involves 30 minutes of continuous physical activity to promote healthy lifestyles among youth in Iowa. This event gives schools and youth organizations an opportunity to teach kids that physical activity is fun and healthy. Fall Fitness Day is planned for Oct. 3; however the event can occur anytime between Oct. 1 and Oct. 9. Organizations must report participation to Live Healthy Iowa Kids following their planned activity.

Live Healthy Iowa will award organizations for their dedication and commitment in helping Iowa become the Healthiest State in the nation. Through a random drawing among those reporting 100% participation, organizations will be eligible to win monetary prizes. These awards can be used towards new physical education equipment for their organization.
