IOWA CORN GROWERS ASSN.
E15 Ethanol Blend Now On Sale at Linn Co-op Oil in Marion
Sept. 26, 2012 - JOHNSTON - The Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB) is applauding that E15, a 15 percent ethanol blend, is now available at the Linn Co-op Oil Company in Marion.
E15 contains 15 percent ethanol compared to E10 which has been universally available for more than 30 years. It is approved for use in vehicles that are model year 2001 or newer including SUVs and light-duty trucks. It can be used in flex-fuel vehicles as well. With E15, motorists will get an octane boost while experiencing the same performance and environmental benefits.
Earlier this year, the Obama Administration gave its final approval for the sale of E15 under the waiver conditions set by the EPA. The administration stated that all regulatory hurdles to E15 had been addressed by the ethanol industry. Fuel retailers have had to file the proper forms with the EPA to offer E15 as an option for their consumers.
"We applaud Linn Co-op for doing their part and being the first in the Iowa to offer E15," says Don Elsbernd, a farmer from Postville who chairs the Iowa Corn Usage and Production committee. "We look forward to more retailers offering E15. The ultimate goal of getting E15 to the marketplace is to increase the amount of renewable fuels available to consumers, which can help lower fuel costs and reduce our dependence on foreign oil."
Iowa is the leader in renewable fuels production with 41 ethanol refineries capable of producing nearly 3.7 billion gallons annually. The ethanol industry continues to support more than 74,000 Iowa jobs. To read more about the availability of E15 go to www.iowacorn.org.
