MINNESOTA ASSN OF TOWNSHIPS

Minnesota Association of Townships Educational Conference and Annual Meeting November 15-17, 2012

The Minnesota Association of Townships is a nonprofit corporation representing Minnesota's 1,784 townships and nearly 9,000 officers. For the 79th year, the Association is hosting a 2 1/2 -day Educational Conference and Annual Meeting. This year it will be held at the River's Edge Convention Center in St. Cloud on November 15-17, 2012. Our theme is 'Townships Serving Their Citizens; Yesteryear, Today and Tomorrow.'

The event kicks off on Thursday evening with Exhibitors displaying their services and resources. Exhibits continue Friday, as well as the beginning of the Association's educational workshops. The Friday general session will include presentations from BWSR, Jurisdictional Realignment, Food Safety Handling, Noxious Weeds, Disaster Preparation and Recovery and the President of the Association of MN Counties (AMC.)

Breakout workshops include:

* Board of Appeal & Equalization Training

* Don't Get Caught in a Blizzard of Lawsuits - Snow Removal Liability

* End of Year Reports: What, When, How

* CTAS Advanced

* Electronic Record Retention

* Township Contracting

The popular round table discussions will address many important issues to include, but not limited to: Talk to your Legislator, Attorney Talk, PERA, IRS, the State Auditor's office, DNR Statewide Planners, Assessor's Association, Aggregate Resource Mapping, MAT Agency and more.

The Friday evening banquet is highlighted by awarding four $1000 scholarships to students whose essays were written about township government. There will be other recognitions as well.

Saturday is the Association's Business meeting. At this meeting our membership will vote on the legislative platform and other Association issues.
