IOWA EGG COUNCIL ANNOUNCES INCREDIBLY GOOD EGGS RECIPE CONTEST
URBANDALE, IA - Wholesome, fresh eggs are an essential ingredient in a variety of delicious recipes. Whether it's the simple joy of whipping up an omelet, piling billowy meringue on a pie or blending rich yolks into smooth custard, cooks love the ease and versatility of eggs.
The Iowa Egg Council is looking for the best, most delicious recipes from cooks across the state as they kick off their "Incredibly Good Eggs" cooking contest. "Show us your egg-cellent creativity, and you just might win an IPAD Mini!" says Lois White, director of consumer affairs. She urges contestants to be creative and "think outside the shell" with new, innovative ideas. "Make this a fun opportunity to receive recognition for your excellent food preparation skills and culinary creativity," says White.
Three divisions make up the contest. They include: Adults age 18 on up, Culinary Arts Students enrolled in a formal culinary arts program and Students in grades 6-12.
One winner from each division will be awarded an IPAD Mini for first prize, a Kitchen Aid mixer for second prize or a $250 Kitchen Collage gift card for third prize.
Contestants may enter up to two recipes. Recipes can include party foods or drinks, breakfast entrees, main dishes, side dishes, snacks or desserts. All recipes must be original and contain at least four eggs (in the form of whole eggs, yolks or whites) and no more than 12 ingredients total.
Look for contest updates throughout spring. After preliminary judging, the top five recipes from each category will appear on Facebook and the Iowa Egg Council website where viewers can support and "like." Creators of recipes who receive the most "likes" will receive a prize. A panel of culinary food experts will select the top three recipes. Entries will be judged on: Taste (40%), Appearance/ Presentation (30%), Texture (20%) and Ease of Preparation (10%).
All contest entries must be received by Friday, March 1, 2013 at 5 PM. To enter, visit www.iowaegg.org for a downloadable entry form and a complete list of rules. Or call 877-IOWAEGG for mailed contest information.
