ACHIEVING A MORE PROFITABLE OPERATION: 2013 Crop Fair Offers Management Information

JOHNSTON, Iowa - January, 2013 - This winter's New Hampton crop fair has a program designed to help local growers deal with the volatility in modern agriculture, according to organizers with the Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA) and Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB). The program will be January 31, 2013 at Kolby's Restaurant, 503 West Milwaukee Street, in New Hampton. The free program runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with complimentary lunch served at 11:45 a.m.

Featured presentations include "Ethanol Update" by Walt Wendland with Golden Grain Energy LLC; "Crop Insurance" by Joe Beland with Farm Credit Services of America; "Grain Market Update" by Matt Campbell, Risk Management Consultant with FCStone; "Nutrient Reduction Strategy" by Ben Gleason, Sustainable Program Manager with Iowa Corn Growers.

"With today's market volatility and weather challenges, it is important to have up-to-date information," says John Finley, ICGA/ICPB grower service representative. "The crop fair program should give local growers access to information that can really help their bottom line."

Sponsors of the crop fair include: Homeland Energy Solutions, Farm Credit Services of America, Five Star Co-op, Iowa Corn Growers Association and Iowa Corn Promotion Board.

For questions or to RSVP by January 28th, contact Five Star Co-op at 641-394-3052 or John Finley, Iowa Corn Growers Service Representative at 515-782-4188 or email to jfinley@iowacorn.org.

The ICGA and ICPB work with local sponsors each winter to provide crop fairs across the state. The programs are intended to give producers free and direct access to timely information on issues facing Iowa agriculture. A complete list of 2013 crop fairs is available on the Iowa Corn website at www.iowacorn.org.
