Midland University football earns 2012 NAIA Buffalo Funds Five Star Champions of Character Team Award

“This accomplishment is a testament to the commitment of coaches, faculty and athletes to excellence both on and off the field,” said Dr. Ben Sasse, President of Midland University. “The football program, along with all 25 of Midland’s athletic bodies, is dedicated to cultivating outstanding character in student-athletes that will carry into the community long after graduation.”

The Buffalo Funds Five Star Champions of Character Team Award is given to an NAIA football team that focuses on presenting the five core values of the Champions of Character program as the priority of their community outreach.

“This is a great honor that speaks volumes about the character-driven student-athletes and staff in our program,” said Josh Gehring, Midland University football head coach. “Our young men have stepped up as leaders and really worked hard both on and off of the field.”

In addition to focusing on upholding integrity through sportsmanship on the field, the Midland football program concentrated on several off-the-field service and community aid projects in 2012. Along with hosting a number of community youth and family camps, the Warriors teamed up with the Make-a-Wish Foundation to positively impact the area during the season. The team also established a “Warrior Impact Day”, during which players donated blood, read with local students, collected food donations, volunteered to move furniture and conducted various activities to better the community.
