ACHIEVING A MORE PROFITABLE OPERATION: 2013 Crop Fair Offers Management Information

JOHNSTON, Iowa - February, 2013 - This winter's Pocahontas Crop Fair has a program designed to help local growers deal with the volatility in modern agriculture, according to organizers with the Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA) and Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB). The program will be February 26, 2013 at the Pocahontas County Expo Center, Northeast 1st Street in Pocahontas, Iowa. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the program runs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with complimentary lunch served at 12:00 p.m.

Featured presentations include "Taxes, Farm Program 2013" by Don Mason, Director of Grower Services with Iowa Corn; "Crop Insurance 2013" by Mike Johnson, Division Sales Manager with John Deere Insurance, "Weather 2013" by Harry Hillaker, State Climatologist with Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and "The State of Iowa Ag" by Bill Northey, Secretary of Agriculture with Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.

"With today's market volatility and weather challenges, it is important to have up-to-date information," says Brian Peterson, ICGA/ICPB district field manager. "The crop fair program should give local growers access to information that can really help their bottom line."

Sponsors of the crop fair include: John Schott-Dekalb, Fischer Feed and Supply, Bob Johnson Agency, Inc., Laurens Equipment, Pro Cooperative, Iowa Corn Growers Association and Iowa Corn Promotion Board.

For questions or to RSVP by February 23rd, contact John Schott, 712-335-4232 or 712-358-1480 or email jschott@ncn.net.

The ICGA and ICPB work with local sponsors each winter to provide crop fairs across the state. The programs are intended to give producers free and direct access to timely information on issues facing Iowa agriculture.
