Iowa Students Receive 2013 Iowa Bankers Association Student Athlete Achievement Scholarship Award at Girls State Basketball Tournament
JOHNSTON, IOWA (Mar. 1, 2013) - Five Iowa high school students will receive the 2013 Iowa Bankers Association's Student Athlete Achievement Award during the Iowa High School Girls State Basketball Tournament on March 1-2 in Des Moines. One student from each class will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Iowa Bankers Association to the college of her choice.
Scholarship recipients include:
* Class 1A: Koriene Schulte, Central Lyon High School, Rock Rapids
* Class 2A: Sarah Schlichte, IKM-Manning High School, Manning
* Class 3A: Kristin Probst, MOC-Floyd Valley High School, Orange City
* Class 4A: Elizabeth Riessen, Harlan Community High School, Harlan
* Class 5A: Molli Koehler, Mason City High School, Mason City
Scholarship recipients were selected based on their academic performance, athletic participation, leadership skills and community involvement.
"Not only do these students excel on the field and in the classroom, but they also go above and beyond to serve their communities. They exemplify the core values so critical to our industry - honesty, hard work and community service. We are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize these students for their strong character," said John Sorensen, president and CEO of the Iowa Bankers Association. "Our industry is all about trust, and we need to demonstrate these values on a day-to-day basis. We feel it is important to help recognize others in our communities who serve as role models of strong character, like these student athletes, and to help them be successful in the long-term."
For more than two decades, the Iowa Bankers Association has sponsored the Student Athlete Achievement Scholarship Awards program in partnership with the Iowa High School Athletic Association. The program includes awards to student athletes in football, basketball and wrestling. The Iowa Bankers Association has awarded more than $250,000 in scholarships since the program began.
