CAMP HERTKO HOLLOW'S APRIL, 2013 FAMILY DIABETES EDUCATION RETREAT. BEGINNING FRIDAY EVENING, APRIL 5 THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING, APRIL 7, 2013 HELD AT THE DES MOINES Y CAMP NEAR BOONE, IA. REGISTRATION DEADLINE APRIL 1, 2013.

Youth with diabetes of all ages are encouraged to attend with their family members, close friend, grandparents, and even babysitter to learn about managing diabetes well. Great for newly diagnosed children who haven't attended our summer camp sessions. Learn from diabetes health professionals and meet other families experiencing the same challenges. Past families, campers, and staff are also encouraged to attend to help share their stories. Special Teen Retreat is planned for 13-18 year old diabetic youth during the Family Diabetes Education Retreat. Great fun, outdoor and indoor activities planned, sharing and learning for the whole family! Every summer Camp Hertko Hollow offers youth with diabetes ages 6-18, two exciting one-week residential camping sessions held at the Des Moines Y Camp near Boone, IA. This year our Teen Week session for ages 13-18 will be held June 23-29. Kids Week for ages 8-12 will be held June 30-July 6. Mini-camps are offered during Kids Week for 6-7 year olds. All campers enjoy the many activities Y Camp offers while making new friendships with other campers just like them who have diabetes. Professional healthcare supervision of all diabetes related tasks is provided at all times to the campers offering a very safe and enjoyable camping program and experience. Many young campers learn how to give their first insulin injection while at camp!

Camp Hertko Hollow's mission is to provide an educational and recreational camping program for Iowa's youth between the ages of 6-18 who have diabetes. To promote diabetes management skills to gain independence and a positive attitude for controlling the disease.
