MEDIA ADVISORY AARP TO RELEASE STATEWIDE POLL OF NEBRASKANS AGE +18 MEDICAID EXPANSION
What: AARP-commissioned survey of Nebraskans’ opinions on Medicaid expansion
When: Tuesday, March 19, 2013
Where: State Capitol Rotunda – 2nd Floor
Who: State Sen. Kathy Campbell
Connie Benjamin, State Director, AARP Nebraska
Mark Intermill, Advocacy Director, AARP Nebraska
AARP volunteers and representatives from groups supporting Medicaid expansion
Why: Nebraska lawmakers will decide whether to expand Medicaid (LB 577) to provide health coverage to at least 54,000 uninsured Nebraskans. Last year, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Medicaid expansion is optional for the states under the federal Affordable Care Act. LB 577 was advanced by the Health and Human Services Committee on March 14. Gov. Heineman continues to oppose Medicaid expansion. Floor debate on the bill is expected to begin later this month or in April.
Visuals: People gathered in rotunda, signage, blown-up graphics on easels with survey findings.
