Nebraska Kidney Association Hosts 5K to Raise Awareness, Prevent Kidney Disease
(North Platte, Nebraska) (August7, 2013) - One in 6 adults in Nebraska are living with kidney disease and most don’t even know it.
To raise public awareness of the importance of early detection, especially for those people considered at risk, the Nebraska Kidney Association is asking you to join in and help spread the word. And if that sounds like too great of a challenge, you might just think of it as a walk in the park. That’s because if you can walk, you can take part in a unique community event - the 1st Annual Kidney Klassic at Cody Park on Sunday, August 11, 2013, registration starts at 7:15 am and the run starts at 8:00 am, which features a 5k run, 1 mile walk and munchkin race.
“Twenty million Americans have kidney disease, and approximately 20,000 of them live right here in Nebraska,” says Lisa Sinsel, Program and Development Director for the Nebraska Kidney Association. “The Kidney Klassic will draw attention to the importance of early detection for those at risk, and also raise funds to support programs for kidney patients and their families. “Participants are expected to lace up and show up to this year’s Kidney Klassic, which is headed up by the Platte River Care Dialysis staff.
Participants of all ages are invited to join in the fun by walking individually or by forming a team. “So, if you can walk the walk,” adds Lisa, “you’ll be able to talk the talk.”
