AMES, Iowa -Oskaloosa Elementary was selected last month to have Live Healthy Iowa Kids come to their school and organize their Fall Fitness Day! Fall Fitness Day is a statewide, free, one-day event that encourages Iowa Schools and youth organizations to get youth active for an additional 30 minutes. It is also an opportunity to education Iowa's youth on why being physically active is important and necessary to lead a long, healthful life!
Parents and community members are invited to join the kids for a fun-filled afternoon! Standard check-in procedures apply. The schedule is as follows:
1:30-1:45 Kids entering in gym
1:45-2:00 Introductions from Principals, Live Healthy Iowa Kids, the Mayor and High School Cheerleaders
2:00-2:15 Cheerleaders lead youth in school song/dances/cheers
2:15-2:30 K-2 stay in gym to dance with Live Healthy Iowa Kids, 3-5 exit gym to participate in Healthiest State Initiative Walk
2:35-2:50 K-2 participate in Healthiest State Walk, 3-5 in gym to dance with Live Healthy Iowa Kids
Both Live Healthy Iowa Kids and Oskaloosa Elementary are excited for this wonderful opportunity; this is the first year Live Healthy Iowa Kids has hosted the event at a remote location! Thus far, there are over 130,000 kids registered at 400 schools to participate in the event across the state. All schools who report 100% participation are eligible to receive one of five awards (1-$1,000 and 4-$250); last year, during the 10 Week Wellness Challenge, Oskaloosa Elementary was awarded $500 from Live Healthy Iowa Kids for their participation in the program.
