Sara Schmidt from Algona Wins Tickets to All Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Events Next Year

JOHNSTON, Iowa - December 18, 2013 - The Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series Superfan Sweepstakes started in August and ran through both Iowa and Iowa State football seasons giving fans the chance to text or enter online at to win ethanol and the grand prize of 2 tickets to every Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk event in 2014-15.

During a half time presentation at the Iowa and Iowa State Men's Basketball game on Friday, December 13, 10 lucky finalists were whittled down to just one winner. Sara Schmidt from Algona walked away as the grand prize winner of tickets as well as $500 in ethanol from Kum&Go. Ronnie Mensen of Earlville won $500 in ethanol as the runner-up sponsored by Iowa Corn friends at Kum&Go.

The 10 finalists included a mix of Iowa and Iowa State fans from across the state: Becky Carritt, Dennis Deke, Mary Schreurs, Mickie Phengsiaroun, David Schmitt, Sara Schmidt, Floyd Gerleman, Ronnie Mensen and Nicole Bierl.

"All the finalists were thankful to receive tickets to the game as well as $100 in ethanol," said Kurt Hora, an Iowa Corn farmer leader from Washington, Iowa and the one to pick names during the half time presentation. "With the sold out crowd, it was another great event to add to the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series and another way to reach Iowans with our messages."

Iowa Corn sponsors the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series to reach Iowans about corn and the products made from corn, including ethanol. Thousands of fans have participated in special giveaways, online games, social media promotions, local events, and on-site marketing opportunities. The points in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series can be tracked at With 10 points Iowa State leads this current Series, with two events and the academic point remaining.

The Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB), works to develop and defend markets, fund research, and provide education about corn and corn products. The Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA) is a membership organization lobbying on agricultural issues on behalf of its 7,600 farmer members. Both organizations work on the joint mission to create opportunities for long-term Iowa corn grower profitability. The Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series is part of a 4 year partnership with both Hawkeye Sports Properties and Cyclone Sports Properties. The promotion includes radio, television, internet, and on-site marketing. The campaign highlights the many uses for corn and its importance to Iowa- as everyday is Game Day for Iowa's farmers.
