Christmas Surprise: Missouri Powerball Player Wins $71.5 Million Jackpot
One Powerball ticket sold in Missouri matched all six numbers drawn Christmas night to win the $71.5 million jackpot. The winning numbers were: 23, 28, 38, 39, 56, and the Powerball number was 32.
If you find you hold the winning ticket, be sure to sign the back and put it in a safe place until you can take it to the Missouri Lottery Headquarters, located at 1823 Southridge Drive in Jefferson City. A map to the office can be found on the "Contact Us" page of the Lottery's website at MOLottery.com. Winners are also encouraged to call the Lottery headquarters at (573) 751-4050.
"When the winner comes to our Jefferson City office, we will have staff to help counsel the winners on the claim process and other pending decisions," said May Scheve Reardon, executive director of the Missouri Lottery. "But we want the winner to take his or her time getting proper legal and financial advice before they come to our Headquarters office. It is also wise to tell as few people as possible, so you have uninterrupted time to make important decisions and arrangements."
The Missouri winner has 180 days to claim this prize, which in this case is June 23, 2014. The winner can select to get the jackpot prize in 30 graduated annuity payments or in one lump-sum payment worth approximately $39.8 million before taxes. If no choice is made in 60 days, the jackpot is automatically paid in 30 payments.
