2014 Iowa State Bowling Tournament Kick's Off in Burlington/Mount Pleasant
The Iowa State Bowling Association Annual State Bowling Tournament which is being hosted in Burlington and Mount Pleasant kicks off February 1st.
The Burlington Bowling Association, Greater Burlington Convention & Visitors Bureau, Mount Pleasant Bowling Association, and Mount Pleasant Chamber Alliance bid to host the 2014 Iowa State Bowling Association Annual State Bowling Tournament in 2012.
"We are looking forward to hosting the 2014 Iowa State USBC Bowling Tournament," said Ed Budzyn, Burlington Bowling Association. "The tournament will attract a large number of visitors to the community who will spend dollars in our local businesses."
The tournament will take place over 15 weekends February through April. There will be an estimated 400 participants in the community each weekend. The bowlers will bowl a team event or doubles and singles on Saturday then the opposite event on Sunday. In total the event is estimated to attract over 11,000 participants, spectators, and officials, selling over 3,500 room nights, and an estimated impact of $1.4 million to the local economy.
"This will be an outstanding event for the community as it will fill our hotel rooms during a typically slower time of year," said Beth Nickel, Executive Director, Greater Burlington Convention & Visitors Bureau. "We are always looking to attract events that will bring visitor traffic to the community during the non-peak season and the State Bowling Tournament will fulfill this mission."
The last time Burlington and Mount Pleasant hosted the tournament was in 2007 through a non-competitive bid process. Currently, the Iowa State Bowling Association awards the tournament through a competitive bid process rather than a rotation basis.
