Joey Gase Racing 2014 NASCAR Nationwide Series launch party set for Feb. 8th
Cedar Rapids, IA - Joey Gase Racing will be hosting a launch party to kick-off the 2014 Nationwide Series racing season at Dublin City Pub in downtown Cedar Rapids from 4p-9p on February 8th. Joey has a guaranteed position in the first race of season at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida on February 22nd. All of the Nationwide Series races will televised on either ESPN or ABC.
"Our goal is to qualify in all 33 races this season. Finishing 31st overall was a great accomplishment last year, but we think we can be a top 20 team, if not higher," said Gase. "I'm proud to be racing in honor of my mom and helping to spread awareness about organ and tissue donation is even more rewarding."
Joey's mother, Mary Gase, passed away from a sudden brain aneurysm in 2012. Only 18 at the time, Joey was the legal next of kin and chose for his mother to become an organ and tissue donor. "We didn't have her driver's license with us at the time. She had always wanted to help people, had always wanted to give blood. This is something we knew she would have wanted. As a result, 66 lives were saved or enhanced because of her," said Gase. One of those lives saved was Jordan Shaw of Omaha. He received Mary's kidney. Shaw and Gase had an emotional first meeting last summer at the Iowa Speedway. ESPN captured the meeting and aired a special on the two, which can been seen at this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckm8cvD3b6M
Jordan Shaw plans on attending Joey's launch party this Saturday, which is also open to the public. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Joey who will also be signing autographs. NASCAR t-shirts, stickers and other items will also be available for purchase. Iowa Donor Network facilitates the organ and tissue recovery and transplantation for the state of Iowa and will have employees on hand to answer questions about donation. Iowa Donor Network will be sponsoring Joey at the two Iowa Speedway races this year. Joey, one of the youngest drivers on the Nationwide Series will be celebrating his 21st birthday that evening.
