MISSOURI HOUSE ADVANCES LEGISLATION THAT WILL GIVE CLEAR PROTECTION TO THE RIGHT OF CONSCIENCE FOR MEDICAL AND RESEARCH PROFESSIONALS
The following can be attributed to Pam Fichter, President of Missouri Right to Life:
The House gave final approval today, by a vote of 112 to 38, to HB 1430, a broad conscience clause bill that specifies that no one can be required to participate in research or provide medical procedures or services that violate his or her religious, moral, or ethical principles that are adherent to a sincere and meaningful belief in God or in relation to a supreme being.
Missouri has great medical institutions that were started based on their faith and desire to help those with medical needs. And, they are still providing great health care to our society as a whole today.
The federal HHS mandate, that requires that religious institutions participate in destroying innocent human lives, goes against the core of their religious beliefs and the medical facts of what a human being is and when life begins. This attack on our religious freedom is in stark opposition to our first amendment right of freedom of religion. Make no mistake, the attack by the Obama Administration is an attack on our religious freedom and has "nothing" to do with women accessing contraception. We have a greater need today than ever before in our history for legislation like HB 1430, that protects the conscience rights of our medical and research community.
Missouri Right to Life thanks all the House members, both Republicans and Democrats for their support of HB 1430.
