Polk County Man Charged With Tax Crimes

(Des Moines, Iowa) Brian Ray Tyler of Des Moines, Iowa was charged with tax crimes on Tuesday January 28, 2014. The charges were filed by Assistant Polk County Attorney Brendan Greiner on behalf of the Iowa Department of Revenue.

According to the Preliminary Complaint, Mr. Tyler was charged with three counts of Income Tax Evasion, a Class D Felony for willfully attempting to defeat or evade personal income tax, or the payment of personal income tax for each of the tax years 2010, 2011, and 2012.

Additionally, Mr. Tyler was charged with three counts of Fraudulent Practice 2nd Degree, a Class D Felony, one count for each of the tax years 2010, 2011, and 2012.

The charges arose out of an investigation conducted by the Iowa Department of Revenue. The investigation alleges tax evaded was $23,803. Each charge carries with it a maximum of 5 years in prison.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
