Silos & Smokestacks 2014 People's Choice "Site of the Year" Finalists

Northeast Iowa - Each year, Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area (SSNHA) celebrates the best in heritage development by presenting Golden Silo Awards to individuals and organizations whose contributions demonstrate outstanding excellence in preserving and telling America's agricultural story. The People's Choice "Site of the Year" is a special award presented to one deserving SSNHA Partner Site, where the public decides the winner from a group of nominees.

From March 17-23, 11 Heritage Area Partner Sites competed in online voting, with the following three sites emerging as finalists:

* Hurstville Interpretive Center, Maquoketa
* Living History Farms, Urbandale
* Vesterheim Norwegian - American Museum, Decorah

Voting in the finalist round will run from March 25-April 1 and again be open to the public at www.silosandsmokestacks.org. The winning site will be announced during Silos & Smokestacks' 10th Annual Golden Silo Awards Luncheon on April 2 from 12:00-1:30 p.m. at the Black's Building Sky Room, Waterloo, Iowa. Tickets for this event are $25 per person, with reservations due by March 26. Those unable to attend, can follow a live Twitter feed of the event at www.twitter.com/ssnha. For more information or to register, call 319-234-4567 or visit www.silosandsmokestacks.org. Thank you to the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation and Iowa Pork Producers Association for their support of this year's awards luncheon.
