Iowa Sports Foundation Announces Staff Additions
Beatty Named Iowa Senior Games Director
The Iowa Sports Foundation (ISF) announces the hiring of Matt Beatty to serve as the Iowa Senior Games Director. Beatty comes to the ISF from the Muscatine Parks and Recreation where he served as Program Supervisor.
The Iowa Senior Games, formerly known as the Iowa Senior Olympics, recently joined forces with the Iowa Sports Foundation (ISF).
Held annually in June in West Des Moines, the Iowa Senior Games is a multi-sport festival that offers competitive opportunities for those aged 50 and over.
"We're excited to have Matt on board" said ISF COO, Kevin Bourke. "His knowledge and experience in sports and recreation programming, as well a, event planning makes him a perfect fit".
Prior to his stint in Muscatine, Beatty established and administered the city of Ogden's first recreation department. Earlier in his career he served as the Recreation/Aquatics Coordinator for the Perry Recreation Department.
While attending Iowa State University (1997-2001), Matt served as a manager for the ISU track & field team and then head track coach, Steve Lynn. Most recently, Lynn was the executive director for the Iowa Senior Games until his unexpected death in January 2013.
"I consider it an honor to follow in the footsteps of one of my mentors, Steve Lynn," Beatty stated. "Steve had a vision for the Iowa Senior Games and the potential to create a great state-wide event. It's exciting to be given the opportunity to carry out his vision."
Under the umbrella of the Iowa Sports Foundation, the Iowa Senior Games, joins three highly successful state wide programs: the Iowa Games, Live Healthy Iowa and Adaptive Sports Iowa.
Elsbecker New Assistant Sports Director
Zach Elsbecker has been named as Assistant Sports Director at the Iowa Sports Foundation. Recently Elsbecker earned his MS in Sports Administration from Drexel University in Philadelphia. While at Drexel, he served as the Athletic Operations Assistant.
Elsbecker will be responsible for the Winter Iowa Games, select special events and overseeing the Iowa Games internship program. As an undergrad at Central College in Pella, Elsbecker served as a summer Iowa Games intern in 2011.
The Iowa Sports Foundation is a nonprofit sports management organization that helps develop amateur sports in Iowa and promote positive lifestyles and physical fitness through athletic events and health education initiatives.
