Iron Mountain's Cole Smith Named Outstanding Man in Business

HOUGHTON (April 2, 2014) - Cole Smith, a graduate of Iron Mountain High School, has been named Sam Tidwell Outstanding Man of the Year in the School of Business and Economics at Michigan Technological University. Judy Isaacson of Mohawk won the award for Outstanding Woman of the Year.

"While both have excellent academic records, distinction lies in their willingness to assume leadership roles on campus, as well as engage in the experiential opportunities provided by the School's many programs," said Gene Klippel, dean of the School.

"Cole Smith [management major] participated in numerous statewide academic competitions while at Michigan Tech," Klippel said. "These included the Michigan Collegiate Innovation Prize Competition and the West Michigan Collegiate Project Management Competition. Cole has also taken the opportunity to gain real-world experience by participating in the School's co-op program.

Klippel cited accounting major Isaacson's pursuit of a global business minor, including a semester at London Metropolitan University. She is also enrolled in the School's Applied Portfolio Management Program, where students manage a real portfolio of over $1 million dollars and have just won two global competitions.

"We are extremely proud of both Judy and Cole and pleased to be able to recognize them with this award."
