SAINT MARY'S UNIV. OF MN

Local student Obasi nominated for Saint Mary's University's Outstanding Senior Award

WINONA, Minn. - Saint Mary's University biology and chemistry major Lisa Obasi, daughter of Queen and Cyprian Obasi of Woodbury, Minn., was nominated for the university's Outstanding Senior Female Award.

For the past 47 years, Saint Mary's has honored a male and a female senior who have demonstrated the ideals of scholarship, character, leadership, service to colleagues and the university community, as well as genuine concern for the needs of others.

Obasi has demonstrated these qualities through her involvements including Delta Epsilon Sigma National Honor Society and Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society. She also has been a member of the Saint Teresa Leadership and Service Institute for Women, Black Students and Allies, and the Solidarity Council. Obasi was a resident assistant in Saint Joseph's Hall and Brother Leopold Hall. She is also currently one of the student coordinators for the First Generation Initiative. After graduation, she plans to attend medical school. She eventually hopes to become a pediatrician and provide medical care to children in impoverished areas.

The Outstanding Senior Male and Female Awards were presented during the university's Founder's Day April 1 to Miles Dunna, son of Wokie Dunna of Saint Paul, Minn., and Amy Spitzmueller, daughter of Kathy and Bill Spitzmueller of New Brighton, Minn.
