Local student Soucheray nominated for Saint Mary's University's Outstanding Senior Award

WINONA, Minn. - Saint Mary's University history/social studies major John Soucheray, son of John and Kate Soucheray of Woodbury, Minn., was nominated for the university's Outstanding Senior Male Award.

For the past 47 years, Saint Mary's has honored a male and a female senior who have demonstrated the ideals of scholarship, character, leadership, service to colleagues and the university community, as well as genuine concern for the needs of others.

Soucheray has demonstrated these qualities through his involvements including Delta Epsilon Sigma National Honor Society and Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society. Additionally Soucheray has won the History Book Prize five times. He has been a member of the cross country and the indoor and outdoor track and field teams for four years. He served as the vice president for the Cardinal Athletic Council. And he has been a resident assistant in Saint Benilde Hall, LaSalle Hall and the Pines Hall. Soucheray was a Centennial student leader, and he helped start the new club, Leadership Service Community Brotherhood. He has also participated in liturgical choir, Serving Others United in Love (S.O.U.L.) trips, Together Encountering Christ (TEC) retreats, and Buddies. After graduation, Soucheray plans to teach social studies and coach cross country and track.

The Outstanding Senior Male and Female Awards were presented during the university's Founder's Day April 1 to Miles Dunna, son of Wokie Dunna of Saint Paul, Minn., and Amy Spitzmueller, daughter of Kathy and Bill Spitzmueller of New Brighton, Minn.
