Local student Zuzek nominated for Saint Mary's University's Outstanding Senior Award

WINONA, Minn. - Saint Mary's University elementary education major Katherine Zuzek, daughter of Mark and Janet Zuzek of Hastings, Minn., was nominated for the university's Outstanding Senior Female Award.

For the past 47 years, Saint Mary's has honored a male and a female senior who have demonstrated the ideals of scholarship, character, leadership, service to colleagues and the university community, as well as genuine concern for the needs of others.

Zuzek has demonstrated these qualities through her involvements including Kappa Delta Pi National Education Honor Society and Delta Epsilon Sigma National Honor Society. She has served as president of Student Senate and was on the executive board of the Student Activities Committee for two years. She has also participated in Together Encountering Christ (TEC) retreats, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) club, Taylor Richmond Benefit Dance committee, Serving Others United in Love (S.O.U.L.) Council, New Student Orientation, Z-Club, liturgical choir, and Yearbook Club. Zuzek has tutored in the English Language Learners program and the Initial Teaching Alphabet (ITA) program and served as a Centennial student leader. After graduation, she hopes to teach elementary school in the Winona or Hastings areas.

The Outstanding Senior Male and Female Awards were presented during the university's Founder's Day April 1 to Miles Dunna, son of Wokie Dunna of Saint Paul, Minn., and Amy Spitzmueller, daughter of Kathy and Bill Spitzmueller of New Brighton, Minn.
