Sasan presented with Columbia College Alumni Association Community Service Award

COLUMBIA, Mo., May 23, 2014 - The Columbia College Alumni Association (CCAA) is pleased to announce that Ed Sasan '11 has been honored with the Columbia College Community Service Award. The award recognizes an alumnus who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and service to the citizens of his or her community.

In 2010, Sasan saved a 34-year-old man's life at Liberty High School by administering CPR during a heart attack. He received his community's Life Saving Award. A year later, he was recognized for helping restore his neighborhood after an F-5 tornado.

Sasan graduated from Columbia College-Redstone Arsenal after serving 22 years in the U.S. Army as an ammunitions and explosives expert. He then joined the Madison City Police Department in Madison, Alabama, where he has been for the past 10 years. He currently serves as a school resource officer and he works to protect his community in various ways, including teaching students about the negative influences of drugs. In an article in The Huntsville Times, Sasan spoke about the importance of his family and how that drove him to make his community a better place.

"Sasan has always displayed total professionalism and dedication to our community," says Harry Hobbs, communications relations officer for the City of Huntsville, Ala. "He is an outstanding role model for others to follow and emulate."
