Iowa Senior Games Reaches Record Participation Numbers
Over 800 participants and growing
Ames, IA - June 2, 2014 - The 28th annual Iowa Senior Games (ISG) is less than two weeks away in West Des Moines on June 12-15. Athletes ages 50 and over can register to compete in this Olympic-style competition with 29 sports and nearly 100 events. In 2012, 735 athletes participated and as they merged with the Iowa Sports Foundation there were hopes for reaching over 800 athletes this year.
"We made reaching 800 participants our goal." said Matt Beatty, Iowa Senior Games Director. "We felt that with a great marketing effort, we could break the record and take the Iowa Senior Games to the next level."
After the early registration deadline, the ISG had already surpassed the 2012 record. As the overall registration deadline, Monday, June 9 approaches, over 840 participants have pre-registered. This marks a record amount of participants to ever compete in the Iowa Senior Games and there is still a week left to register for events.
With record numbers, the Iowa Senior Games hopes to see several participants qualify for the 2015 National Senior Games held in Minneapolis MN.
