ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF WALES IN MINNEAPOLIS

Wales is known as the "land of song," and Welsh children are said to be born "with music in their blood and poetry in their souls." Come and listen! Come and sing! Come and learn!

The family-friendly North American Festival of Wales will take place over the Labor Day Weekend (August 28 - 31) at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Westminster Presbyterian Church, both on Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis. It is hosted by the St. David's Society of Minnesota and the Minnesota Welsh Association. All are welcome!

Highlights include musical concerts by Tramor, a Welsh folk ensemble led by Wales native, John Good, on Thursday night, and Only Men Aloud, an award- winning U.K. performance choir directed by group founder, Tim Rhys-Evans, on Saturday night. [Photo included] Tickets will be available at the door for both concerts. See Dylan Thomas' Under Milk Wood directed by William Kimes and performed in the original Readers' Theatre style, and listen to harp music played by a world-class harpist from Wales, Elinor Bennett. Other highlights include: Welsh cinema; local tours, folk dance, children's activities, as well as numerous seminars on Welsh culture, history, language - including current events discussions with Dafydd Wigley and a seminar on the illuminated St. John's Bible project in Collegeville, MN.

A singing and recitation competition known as an Eisteddfod will be held Friday and
Saturday, and informal singing sessions will occur nightly at the Hyatt Regency. Saturday night, after the "Only Men Aloud!" concert, you'll want to join us for a Pub night at Brit's Pub on Nicollet Mall.

Four-part hymn singing at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Sunday afternoon and evening serves as the Festival's Grand Finale. This is not a concert - all who attend sing together under the inspirational leadership of Meirwyn Walters. Music is available, if desired. If you don't speak Welsh (many won't) worry not, the majority of the verses will be sung in English, and you may simply listen to and/or hum along with Welsh-sung verses.

Admission to most activities is by 1-day or 3-day pass. Youth under 18 are admitted free of charge, but must register.
