Local student nominated for Saint Mary’s University’s Outstanding Senior Award
WINONA, Minn. – Saint Mary’s University Biochemistry major Meagan Campbell, daughter of Peter and Kris Campbell of Watertown, Minn., was nominated for the university’s Outstanding Senior Female Award.
For the past 50 years, Saint Mary’s has honored a male and female senior who have demonstrated the ideals of scholarship, character, leadership, service to colleagues and the university community, as well as genuine concern for the needs of others.
Campbell has demonstrated these qualities through her many involvements. She has participated in Chamber Singers and Concert Choir, serving as alto section leader. She has been a tutor at the Writing Studio and is currently tutoring biochemistry. She is also the student leader of the new student science blog, MindBlown.
Campbell was selected as the Gundersen Research Fellow of 2017 and performed a summer research project at the Kabara Cancer Institute. She has been involved in the Lasallian Honors Program, is a member of Delta Epsilon Sigma (Catholic national scholastic honor society), and has performed in multiple variety shows on campus. She has volunteered at Saint Anne Assisted Living in Winona, as well as Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Following graduation, she is taking a gap year before hopefully attending medical school.
The Outstanding Senior Male and Female Awards were presented during the university’s Founders’ Day March 13 to Daniel Olajonlu, son of John Oluwafemi, Roseline Olajonlu, and Sandra Ajugba, born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, and currently residing in Rogers, Minn., and Regina Bettag, daughter of Drs. Mark and Teresa Bettag of Sheboygan, Wis.
