North Falmouth Resident Awarded Full Senior Year Tuition Scholarship to Saint Anselm College

MANCHESTER, N.H. (March 11, 2019) – A North Falmouth woman, Madison Scavotto, has been awarded a one-year full tuition scholarship to Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Madison Scavotto was named the 2018-2019 winner of the Father Bernard Holmes Senior Student Award, an honor which grants a student full tuition at Saint Anselm College for his or her senior year.

Scavotto, a psychology and Spanish double major, was chosen for demonstrating concern for and assistance to others, potential for leadership, and a love of learning, while participating in the life of the college.

She tutors students in Spanish, psychology, and writing. She has served others by participating in Relay for Life, volunteering to deliver groceries to members of the Manchester community, and coaching youth hockey. A member of the college’s AVERT committee and an advocate for domestic violence awareness week, Scavotto promotes a safe campus environment by speaking to first-year students; last year she was selected to attend a 2018 NCAA bystander intervention facilitator training conference in Florida.

Scavotto leads on the ice as well, where she is the co-captain of the women’s hockey team. She has been recognized several times during her college career for both academic and on-ice excellence, most recently as the third Saint Anselm student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors and the first since the late 1980’s. She is the first student-athlete from the women’s ice hockey team to earn the honors.

“I feel extremely grateful and humbled to have received the Father Bernard Holmes Scholar Award. I am privileged to attend Saint Anselm with some exceptionally talented students, and to be considered for this award among such a strong applicant pool was an honor in and of itself,” said Scavotto.

The Father Bernard Holmes Senior Student Award is funded with a scholarship endowment by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Davison, long-time supporters of Saint Anselm College.

The award encourages students to emulate and carry into their life’s work the personal qualities of heart and mind demonstrated by Father Bernard. For over 50 years, Father Bernard provided inspiration and counsel to the Saint Anselm College community.
