New Location for Iowa’s Largest Quilt Show

(September 10, 2019) – Iowa’s largest quilt show, “We Color the World,” is set for Thursday – Saturday, September 26, 27, and 28 at a new location, the Cultural Center at the Iowa State Fair Grounds. The 37th annual quilt show is sponsored by members of the Des Moines Area Quilters Guild and brings together more than 500 quilts for display.

The show includes quilts created by the group’s 400 members as well as several special quilt exhibits. Dozens of vendors from six states plan to display and sell their goods while free demonstrations and quilt turnings take place throughout the three-day event. A little-quilt silent auction features numerous little quilts and related creations, and the raffle offers not one, but two colorful member-created quilts.

Included in the special exhibits are treasured quilts that exemplify the “We Color the World” theme of the show; a “Color Me with Wool” special exhibit of wool in quilts; the 2018 president’s challenge quilts; a “Textile Rainbow” collection of art quilts; and a display of community-giving quilts.

Show hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $7 at the door. Shuttles will be available between the parking areas and the quilt show. The three floors of the Cultural Center will be fully accessible by two sets of elevators and several stairways.
