Bedford Resident Awarded Full Senior Year Tuition Scholarship to Saint Anselm College

MANCHESTER, N.H. (March 11, 2019) – A Bedford woman has been awarded a one-year full tuition scholarship to Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Rowan Joyce was named the 2018-2019 winner of the Father Bernard Holmes Senior Student Award, an honor which grants a student full tuition at Saint Anselm College for his or her senior year.

Joyce, a Great Books major and economics minor, was chosen for demonstrating concern for and assistance to others, potential for leadership, and a love of learning, while participating in the life of the college.

Joyce has taken advantage of her liberal arts education by completing a variety of courses from chemistry to illustration. In the residence halls, she supports students as a resident assistant. She has participated in service-learning through The Meelia Center for Community Engagement’s Access Academy, she is an ESL instructor for Saint Anselm’s French speaking employees, a facilitator for Cupcakes and Conversation, a program designed to foster student-dialogue on difficult issues. Finally, as an Admission Office Ambassador, Joyce welcomes prospective students and parents to campus and works for the college’s Center for Ethics in Business and Governance.

Upon receiving the scholarship, Joyce said, “I feel incredibly honored; I never imagined making it so far in the process when I first applied. I remember arriving here my freshman year, and feeling so lucky that I had become a part of this thoughtful and kind Benedictine community; to have been recognized in such a way is so humbling.”

The Father Bernard Holmes Senior Student Award is funded with a scholarship endowment by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Davison, long-time supporters of Saint Anselm College.

The award encourages students to emulate and carry into their life’s work the personal qualities of heart and mind demonstrated by Father Bernard. For over 50 years, Father Bernard provided inspiration and counsel to the Saint Anselm College community.
