Beloit native receives Presidential Scholarship from George Williams College of Aurora University
WILLIAMS BAY, Wis. (July 30, 2021) – Sydney Sanders, of Beloit, Wis., has been named a Presidential Scholar at George Williams College of Aurora University (GWC). Sanders is one of this year’s two recipients of the prestigious four-year, full-tuition scholarship, which was established for first-time freshmen who earned a minimum high school grade point average of 3.00.
A recent graduate of Clinton High School, Sanders will double major in psychology and social work at GWC beginning in the fall 2021 semester. GWC’s academic programs begin with a solid academic core in the liberal arts in which students hone their organizational and communications skills. Students are then immersed in their future profession through internships, field placements, and clinical experiences, allowing them to gain hands-on experience and determine what career they want to pursue.
“This scholarship will allow me to reach my goals by granting me the chance to focus on my studies, and it helps alleviate any extra stress that may have been caused by finances,” said Sanders. “I am looking forward to continuing my education and preparing for my career at GWC.”
Sanders was chosen to receive the competitive scholarship based on the strength of her academic accomplishments, a detailed application, an interview, and an essay.
“We are excited that Sydney chose George Williams College and believe she will find our social work program will prepare her for a challenging and rewarding career,” said Kate Herrick, GWC’s vice president for academics and student life. “George Williams College has a long history of preparing social workers, and the need for them at this point in history is unprecedented. We are thrilled to help Sydney and other interested social workers prepare for the future.”
