Department of Revenue Updates 2013 Annual Motor Fuel Report
The Iowa Department of Revenue has released a revised 2013 Retailers Motor Fuel Gallons Annual Report. Since posting the original report, the Department received some corrected and late-filed information. The addition of that information increased the statewide 2013 biofuel distribution percentage from the previously reported 9.9% to 10.8%. We believe this change was significant enough to warrant publishing an updated report.

Topeka - AARP Kansas Director Maren Turner and Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger at a news conference urged Governor Brownback to veto House Bill 2553, a bill passed by the Kansas Legislature that would allow the state to join an Interstate Health Care Compact and place federal funding for all health care services in the state, including funding for such programs as Medicare, Medicaid, and Healthwave (children's health insurance) under the control of the state legislature and governor. They were joined at the news conference by representatives from Kansas Advocates for Better Care and the Kansas Medicaid Access Coaltion.

Iowa Corn Promotion Board Receives U.S. Patent for Nitrogen Gene
Johnston, April 8, 2014- The Iowa Corn Promotion Board is the recipient of a newly issued patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. This is the first U.S. patent that the Iowa Corn Promotion Board has received for its work in nitrogen use efficiency in corn and related to transgenic plants that have increased nitrogen use efficiency, and/or increased yield using a patented gene. Specifically, patent 8,692,070, Plants with Improved Nitrogen Utilization and Stress Tolerance demonstrates Iowa Corn's commitment to improving farmer productivity even to the gene level.
