WATERLOO, Iowa (June 19, 2025) — Due to the temporary closure of Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area (SSNHA) headquarters, the June 13 Farm Story Friday was rescheduled and relocated. Families are invited to join SSNHA for a special Farm Story Friday on June 20 from 10:00–10:30 a.m. at the John Deere Tractor & Engine Museum, 500 Westfield Ave. in Waterloo.
This free program, designed for children ages 2–7 and their caregivers, will feature farm-themed storytelling and interactive, hands-on learning. The June 20 theme will remain focused on Cows, with special guest-reader Meta Hemenway-Forbes from Hansen’s Dairy of Hudson.
The event will include:
- A farm-related children’s book read aloud
- A themed take-home activity sheet
- Engaging educational experiences tied to the story
- Special handouts and activities courtesy of New Day Dairy in Clarksville
“While we regret the brief closure of our headquarters, we’re thrilled to partner with the John Deere Tractor & Engine Museum to keep the fun going,” said Cara Miller, Executive Director of SSNHA. “Farm Story Friday helps young learners connect with our region’s rich agricultural roots in an engaging, family-friendly way.”
No registration is required, and all are welcome to attend.
